While we cannot deny the fact that there are challenges and struggles, it is good to weigh the pros and cons to determine whether it is for you or not.

Here are pros and cons of homeschooling:

Pros

1. Essential in boosting confidence

When a kid is home-schooled, they develop extra confidence as compared to other kids who went to, say public schools. With homeschooling, they are able to pursue their passions and interests without being put down. Encouragement from mum, dad and relatives when at home cannot be.

2. There is no fear of the unknown

Homeschooling eradicates the fear in children because they spend each day with people who show them love. They will thus not fear to fail.

3. You develop learning discipline while focusing on the end goal

Homeschooling ensures that a child does what is right not because someone checking in on him or her, but because they already know what their target is. At home there is a lot of freedom, which ensures that kids complete assignments at their own time.

4. Maturity develops

Children who are enrolled in public schools mature slower because their role models are their peers. With homeschooling, maturity in a kid manifests itself faster because they mainly stay with adults.

5. Strengthens family ties

When homeschooling, you will be pouring out your heart and dreams to your dad, mum, brothers and sisters. This helps you build an incredible relationship with people who are close to you.

6. No restrictions, you work at your preferred pace

When homeschooling, you sometimes find that you can do even two course books per year. It is even possible to graduate earlier than your peers at the local school. You don’t have to stagnate or get bored.

Cons

1. Lack of exposure

With homeschooling, you realize that not all opportunities are present at home. Your child doesn’t always get exposed to a variety of subjects and discussions.

2. You have a few friends

A big part of school is the social element and finding out where you fit in, homeschooled kids don’t have that opportunity. The social aspect of school is important to kids and it gives you social skills you will need later.

3. Misunderstanding is real

People will always misunderstand the level of education of a home-schooled child. They will be ignorant of the fact that you are just like their public school-attending kids.

Ultimately you will decide what is best for your children, some kids thrive in the public school while others do much better at home.
